Stupid Is As Stupid Does

A wise man once said in 1994, "Stupid is as Stupid Does." The man who was wiser beyond his IQ was Forrest Gump. Though Tom Hanks' character Forrest Gump had a low IQ, he met several United States Presidents, saved the lives of many of his fellow soldiers in Vietnam, and ran across America not for a cause, but just because he felt like running.
It can be said that though Forrest Gump was not very smart, he accomplished a lot more than was expected of him.
"Stupid is as Stupid Does" means stupid people do stupid things. Forrest Gump saved the lives of other soldiers. Is that a stupid thing to do? No, it was a heroic act.
Stupid is defined as "slow to learn or understand, obtuse, tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes."
Lawsuits are the best gauge of stupid people. One of the more notable stupid lawsuits of recent history involved an 81-year-old woman and a cup of hot McDonald's coffee. An article in the September 1, 1994 issue of the Wall Street Journal reported about the elderly victim and the McDonald's Corporation.
McDonald's reportedly hired a law student to go around to various restaurants to take the temperatures of their coffees. In the end, all of the coffee came around 20 degrees of McDonald's coffee temperature of 180 degrees.
McDonald's says they sell a billion cups of coffee per year and the coffee is brewed at the high temperatures to "fully extract the flavor" of the coffee.
In the end, a jury awarded the Albuquerque, New Mexico victim $2.9 million because she was scalded by the hot drink. One observer of the case, a Dallas, Texas attorney said that the lawsuit was only inevitable. "I've predicted for years that someone's going to win a suit, because I've spilled it on myself. And unlike the coffee I make at home, it's really hot. I mean, man, it hurts."
In the end, warning labels were printed on the coffee cups. However, only a stupid person would forget that hot coffee is hot. Just by touching the coffee cup a person can feel the heat of the liquid. The can also feel the hot liquid on their mouth when they take a drink. Therefore, stupid is indeed as stupid does.
