Americas Funniest Home Videos

I guess you would call watching Americas Funniest Home Videos on television a guilty pleasure. Everybody has watched more than one episode yet no one will admit it. We've all seen the usual variety of clips that are shown: people falling down while dancing, people fainting during a wedding ceremony, funny dog clips, funny clips of kids, and the staple of the home video show: men getting hit in the groin by something.

Americas Funniest Home Videos premiered on January 14, 1990 on ABC-TV. Its first host was Bob Saget. Subsequent hosts were John Fugelsang, Daisy Fuentes, D.L. Hughley, and Richard Kind during special episodes, and the present host, Tom Bergeron.

The appeal seems to be the "guilty pleasure" factor. Combining comedy with a dash of reality television, the show airs humorous video clips that every viewer can relate to. People are going about their everyday lives and something funny happens which manages to get on tape.

The bonus is that the top three video tapes of each week's show can win a cash prize: $10,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, $2,000 for third place. At the end of each season, the first prize winners can come back on the season finale for a chance to win $100,000.

The newest videos on Americas Funniest Home Videos include a child pinched by an angry turtle, trampoline and pole vaulting mishaps, a man running into a tree, and a cat scared by a dog that was running past it.

In the final analysis of Americas Funniest Home Videos, it is clean, funny humor the entire family can watch. There is no intense violence, nudity, or language in the home videos. The only violence a viewer may see is someone crashing into or getting hit by something. Furthermore, the opportunity to win at least $2,000 or more for their mistake doesn't seem as stupid as one would think.
